"It lies not in our power to
love or hate,
For will in us is overruled by fate,
When two are stripped, long ere the
course begin,
We wish that one should love, the
other win;
And one especially do we affect
Of two gold ingots, like in each
respect:
The reason no man knows, let it
suffice,
What we behold is censured by our
eyes.
Where both deliberate. The love is
slight:
Whoever loved, that loved no at
first sight?"
Christopher Marlowe was an English
dramatist, poet and translator in the Elizabethan era. In his poem "whoever loved, that loved
not at first sight?" Marlowe tries to approach to the more spiritual
aspect of love. As he says in the poem, love is not based on a decision that a
certain individual takes. It's not up to
the will of that individual. It's something decided by his or her destiny. It's
been chosen for us by our destiny without our knowledge, and when the right
time comes the two individuals who are meant to spend their lives together are
been met by the destiny itself.
When that chosen person is met by
our destiny, it doesn't matter who that person is, from where that person is
from, what’s that person is doing. We just immediately fall in love with that
person. This is simply the "love at
first sight" and it's defiantly not an accident, it's something that's
meant to be and the beauty of it is we don't know the reason why we love him or
her. It's just happens and it's quite unexplainable.
And all the things happen after that
is like a movie, pre directed by the destiny. So when these two persons who are
meant to be with each other is been met, the one should love the other and the
other one should love him or her back. It's something certain, it's something
like a program that cannot be altered.
And after that they should be with
each other. No matter what happens they should not leave each other. They must
have the possibility to solve their problems, and they must get adopted
according to each other. They should be sensitive to each other and they should
try to think alike. They should be willing to make individual sacrifices just
for the betterment of both. They should not make each other feel alone in
happiness nor in sadness. And finally they should be able to live with each
other happily forever. But sometimes we may feel why are we doing these? Do we
really want to do these? Why are we doing these for only one person? We may
never find an answer for that. Actually that's what love is. It's always
unexplainable.
May be the person that we love have
a lot of imperfections. But for the person who loves won't feel it in that way.
To that person his or her lover is the most perfect person on earth. It's truly
because that's what his or her heart desires.
That's what we wanted our lover to be, "perfect". And that's
exactly how we see him or her. Love blinds our vision, and shows only what we
really desires. Not the reality. So we
won't recognize the imperfections in that person. We don’t care about them at all.
We always think in a positive way. We always try to justify their bad side and
will try to see the good in them.
Love cannot be forced. People fall
in love willingly. Sometimes it just happens in the most unexpected way. And
when you are in love you do all the crazy things to keep that person happy and
keep that person close to you. You make sacrifices for them which sometimes don’t
even give you a proper meaning. You do all these things for a person who you
just started to love suddenly. You may never have known him or her before. In a
way that person may be a true stranger to your life. And when someone
questions, why do you love that person? Why are you doing all these things for
that person? You become speechless. You will struggle to find a proper answer.
But in the end you won't be able to
tell a reason. That's truly what love is. It's always unexplainable. And that's
the beauty of it.
And finally we can say,
"Love is something that meant
to be, when the right time comes it just happens and it's always
unexplainable"
